About this scam type
Fake Bank Alert
Fake bank calls claim suspicious activity, card block, or KYC expiry — then ask for OTP, card details, or app installation. Your real bank will never ask for OTP or passwords on an inbound call.
Who is targeted: Account holders of all banks; spikes after genuine transaction SMS confuse victims.
Warning signs
- !Caller knows partial account details but asks for OTP
- !Request to install an app or share screen
- !Urgent card block unless you verify now
- !Callback number different from bank's printed helpline
What to do
- 1Hang up and call the number on your debit card
- 2Check recent transactions in your official banking app
- 3Never share OTP, CVV, or UPI PIN on any call
- 4Register for bank SMS alerts for all debits
