About this scam type
Government Notice
Digital arrest scams impersonate CBI, ED, RBI, NCB, or police via video call — demanding secrecy, remote access, and UPI payment. Real agencies never arrest or collect fines over video call or personal UPI.
Who is targeted: Seniors, NRIs, and anyone isolated at home who may panic when hearing official-sounding threats.
Warning signs
- !Video call showing uniform or fake ID badge
- !Threat of arrest, FIR, or account freeze
- !Instruction not to tell family or disconnect the call
- !Demand for UPI payment as fine or bail
What to do
- 1Hang up immediately — this pattern is always fraud
- 2Call a trusted family member before doing anything
- 3Never install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or similar apps
- 4Report the number at cybercrime.gov.in
