About this scam type

UPI Collect Request

UPI collect requests pull money from your account when approved — scammers send unexpected collects disguised as refunds or verifications. Even ₹1 approval can confirm your account is active.

Who is targeted: All UPI users — collects appear in GPay, PhonePe, Paytm without you initiating payment.

Warning signs

  • !Collect request from unknown VPA
  • !Collect labelled refund or cashback
  • !₹1 verification collect from stranger
  • !Collect amount much larger than expected transaction

What to do

  1. 1Decline all unexpected collect requests
  2. 2Never approve collect to receive a refund
  3. 3Verify payee name carefully before any approval
  4. 4If approved by mistake, call bank fraud line immediately
