Before Paying
Before paying any UPI ID, check the context — scammers use verification fees, refund traps, and fake merchant names. Always confirm the payee name shown inside your UPI app matches who you intend to pay.
Who is targeted: Anyone about to send UPI payment to a new or unknown VPA.
Warning signs
- !Personal UPI ID for government or corporate payment
- !VPA containing verify, refund, lottery, kyc, secure
- !Small test payment followed by large collect request
- !Payee name in app does not match expected recipient
What to do
- 1Confirm payee name in UPI app before entering PIN
- 2Never pay to release a refund or unlock an account
- 3Use official payment links inside apps, not SMS URLs
- 4Save transaction screenshot before and after
