OTP & Aadhaar

OTP and Aadhaar verification scams trick you into sharing codes or biometric data — often combined with fake bank or government calls. OTP plus remote access can empty accounts in minutes.

Who is targeted: Anyone asked to share OTP for verification, Aadhaar update, or SIM reactivation.

Warning signs

  • !Caller or message asking you to read out an OTP
  • !Aadhaar KYC update via link or phone call
  • !OTP received when you did not initiate a transaction
  • !Pressure to share OTP while on a video call

What to do

  1. 1Never share OTP with anyone — banks never ask for it
  2. 2If OTP arrived unexpectedly, do not share it; check bank app
  3. 3Update Aadhaar only at uidai.gov.in or official centres
  4. 4If shared already, call bank fraud helpline immediately
