About this scam type

Phone Number

This tool checks phone numbers for format and high-risk international prefixes common in scams targeting Indians. It cannot verify whether a specific number belongs to a scammer — caller ID can be spoofed.

Who is targeted: Anyone receiving calls from unknown numbers, especially +92, +234, or spoofed Indian numbers.

Warning signs

  • !International prefix (+92 Pakistan, +234 Nigeria) claiming Indian bank
  • !Missed call from unknown number prompting callback
  • !Number matches bank helpline but caller asks for OTP
  • !WhatsApp message from new number claiming to be family

What to do

  1. 1Do not call back unknown international numbers
  2. 2Verify identity through a number you already trust
  3. 3Use Truecaller or similar as a hint — not proof of safety
